The Enemy is Really ME

Updated: Jul 3

How many of you have ever said to yourself, “I’m fighting demons.” Or what about, “Someone is out to get me,” / “someone is praying on my downfall.”

Better yet, how many of you blame how you are, and how your life is right now on your parents/your childhood traumas?

Although some of the things I listed above may have some truths to them, I’ve learned that the person out to get me is ME. The person responsible for my downfall is ME. The DEMON that I am fighting is myself. You can truly be your own worse enemy, because when it comes down to it…. It’s your decisions, and the choices that you choose to make in your life, that have the biggest impact and effect on you.

We have so many friends, family, and even strangers, who are constantly there, trying to give us advice and trying to protect us, from what they already know, protecting us from ourselves. However, if you’re anything like me, we like to learn the hard way. We fail to listen because we choose to listen to the enemy, OURSELVES. We can know something is wrong to do, and we still do it because “It felt better”, “it’s fun,” “but I love them,” or “it was easier.” Just a whole bunch of lies we tell ourselves knowing deep down it’s wrong. But because of a moment of pleasure, we choose it, ignoring the warnings, leading to a harder consequence later.

We need to heal from our wounds, we need to learn to love ourselves more. Not to make this about God, however, I understand why we must live the way God wants us to live. We need to want what God wants for us. His way is simply trying to protect us from our biggest enemy, which is OURSELVES.

I’m not saying that you have to listen to me because, at the end of the day, you will do what you want to do. However, I will say, I could’ve saved myself a long time. I could’ve protected myself a long time ago if I listened, and wanted what God wanted for me. However, I do not regret anything I went through because it is molding me. It is teaching me and helping me understand the bible more. I am learning to protect myself from MYSELF.

So, my advice to whoever is reading this, save yourself before it’s too late. If it’s not good for you, do not allow it into your life. The consequences of what we do now will be far more worse later, and harder, than that momentarily “good” feeling, that really isn’t good, just ourselves making us think that’s what we want… the enemy.

Stay tuned for the next post: “I’m in pieces”

Isaiah 55:8-9

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
